Tenth grade students in Mrs. Bartley’s public speaking classes brought held court on May 8, 2015, during the mock trial held in the Phyllis Adkins Little Theater at Logan High School.

The trial focused on a fraternity pledging that went wrong which caused a college student to be charged with first-degree murder and criminal hazing during the trial of Chris Archer v. New Columbia.

Members of the prosecution and defense teams presented evidence and questioned witnesses in front of jury members and presiding judge, Mingo County Family Court Judge Sabrina Deskins.

Shaylan Jewell represented the defense team as its lead attornery while Marki Lester led the prosecution.

In preparation for the trial, the defense team was advised by local attorney Steven Wolfe, and the prosecution received counsel from attorney Shana Thompson.

Mrs. Bartley said she was very proud of the hard work the students put in to preparing for the trial and hopes the class will be able to work on more unique projects in the future.
