The Logan County Board of Education has approved a major improvement project for the county’s three high school’s football fields.
During its regularly-scheduled meeting on March 12, 2015, the BOE unanimously approved upgrades to Chapmanville Regional, Logan, and Man High School’s football stadiums that will include the installation of field turf.
Construction will begin first at Man High School very soon, and the project will be completed at all three high schools prior to the 2015 football season.
Superintendent Phyllis Doty praised the BOE for its commitment to major improvement projects for the schools.
“Our students are fortunate to have a progressive Board of Education. Projects like turf to our fields and the expansion at Holden Elementary will improve safety for our students and enhance the use of our facilities.”
Board members said the new turf will not only help our football programs in the schools and community leagues, but it will hopefully allow the BOE to consider initiating a soccer program into the schools.
On Monday, March 16, 2015, BOE members Debbie Mendez, Mark McGrew, and Phyllis Adkins, along with Superintendent Phyllis Doty and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mary Lu MacCorkle, attended a meeting for the Logan County Commission regarding the project. The County Commission has agreed to discuss the possibility of collaborating with Logan County Schools to support funding for the project.
