School closings will no longer affect the graduation date for Logan County Schools. Superintendent Phyllis Doty said her office received clarification from the West Virginia Department of Education last week concerning 2015 commencement ceremonies.
“We were originally told that we could not allow our seniors to graduate more than 5 days before the final day of school, and if any instructional day was missed and then added to the end of the year, we would have to adjust our graduation dates. Last week, the state let us know we do not have to reschedule graduation in the event of snow days or school cancelations.”
The clarification states graduation ceremonies may not be held “earlier than five instructional days prior to the end of the regularly scheduled instructional term for all students.”
“We have been holding off on ordering diplomas because we did not know what date to list for graduation,” says Doty. “Now we can proceed knowing we will not have to change the dates for our ceremonies.”
Logan County seniors will graduate on June 1 and 2. Man High School will hold its ceremony on Monday, June 1, 2015, at 6:00 PM. Chapmanville Regional High School’s ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 4:00 PM. Logan High School’s ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 7:00 PM.
