BOE Elects New Officers back button

The Logan County Board of Education met on July 7, 2014, in accordance with West Virginia Code for a special statutory organizational meeting to elect a President, Vice President, and designate a Board Member as a representative on the Regional Council (RESA II). Members elected will serve two-year terms.

The Board elected Jim Frye to serve as President. Mr. Frye was elected as a member of the Logan County Board of Education in May 2012. He has held several other leadership positions with various organizations prior to this recent election. Mr. Frye currently serves President of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, Board Member for the Hatfield McCoy Convention and Visitors Bureau, board member and Past-Board Chairman of the West Virginia Beverage Association, and Past-President of The Aracoma Story, Inc.

Mark McGrew was elected to serve as Vice President. Mr. McGrew was elected to his first term as a BOE member in 2010 and was re-elected to serve another four-year term this past May. In addition to working as Vice Present of Operations for his family’s business, McGrew Tire Company, he also serves on the Board of Directors for the Logan County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. McGrew has been recognized for his leadership as one of the 2012 West Virginia Young Guns by West Virginia Executive Magazine.

The BOE elected to designate Dr. Pat White to represent them on the regional council known as RESA II. Dr. White was elected to his first term as a board member in 2010 and was re-elected to serve another four-year term this past May. He is a retired employee of Logan County Schools where he had held various positions including Assistant Superintendent, Director of Title I, Director of Transportation, and a classroom teacher.

Newly elected Board President, Jim Frye said, “We are fortunate to have Phyllis Adkins, Mark McGrew, Debbie Mendez, and Dr. Pat White as Board Members. Both Mr. McGrew and Dr. White have a great deal of leadership experience that can be used to help our board guide the school system. I am confident that by working together our board can make Logan County Schools great.”

President Jim Frye, Vice President Mark McGrew, and RESA II Representative Dr. Pat White were administered their oaths of office by the Superintendent of Logan County Schools, Phyllis Doty.
