The Logan County Board of Education held a regularly-scheduled meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center.

Logan High School’s broadcast journalism class presented the board with an example of the school’s daily news program, WLHS-TV. The WLHS students, led by instructor Bill France, have won many statewide awards for journalism. Team member Amiri Bartley told board members about how the program allows students to demonstrate their creativity and learning.

“While other students may have their worked showcased a couple of times a year, the students with WLHS have their work shown every day to staff and students.”

Another presentation was given by the architects Williamson and Shriver concerning the new additions for Holden Elementary. The firm said the documents should be out for bid very soon, and construction on the project could begin in mid-November. The project is planned to be completed within the first few months of the 2016-2017 school year.

Action items approved included the acceptance of Superintendent Doty’s goals for 2015-2016, approval of the school-based health agreement with Lincoln Primary Care, travel requests, and paving projects at Man High School and Chapmanville Middle School.

The Logan County Board of Education will meet several times in October for regular and LSIC meetings.

The next regularly-scheduled meeting for the BOE will be Thursday, October 8, 2015, at 4:00 PM at Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center.
