Winners of the Logan County Math Field Day moved on to represent the district in the regional competition held on Friday, March 24, 2015, at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Students from Logan, Mason, Mingo, Cabell, Lincoln, and Wayne Counties came to compete for the chance to move on the state competition.
All three teams from Logan County placed at the competition, and several representatives took home individual awards. The elementary (4-6), and middle school (7-9) teams both placed second, and the high school (10-12) team finished third in the competition.
Two students took home the top honors in their grade level competitions. Rosie Gillette was named the individual winner for fifth grade, and Zil Panchel won the seventh-grade competition.
Carson Kirk finished in third in place for the fifth-grade division, and in the sixth grade division, KJ Gertz came in third, and Joshua Hatfield was named as an alternate. In the high school division, Kevin Hoops and Martha Ellis were named as alternates.
The WV State Math Field Day will be held on April 18, 2015.
