Logan County Board of Education President Jim Frye returned to his seat during the BOE’s regular meeting on January 8, 2015, at Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center. Frye returned to the board after an unexpected illness forced him to miss meetings in November and December due to hospitalization and recovery. Vice President Mark McGrew presided over meetings during Frye’s absence.
Action items at the meeting include the use of consent agendas for future meetings, a $500 early retirement notification bonus for teachers planning to retire at the conclusion of the 2014-2015; the county’s new Instructional Day Make-Up Policy; a letter of support of WVEA for competitive pay for teachers; bids to purchase lighting supplies for updates in Logan High School, Man High School, and South Man Elementary; out-of-state travel for teachers and administrators to attend a Reading Recovery K-6 Literacy Conference in Columbus, Ohio; and parent volunteers for Logan High School.
Frye thanked his fellow board members for their understanding and support during this difficult time in his life and joked that he was glad to be present at the meeting, or anywhere, following his recent illness.
“It’s an exciting time in Logan County Schools, and I am glad to be back to work to help ensure we are prepared for the upcoming opportunities and challenges that are before us. I believe Logan County Schools is moving ahead to become one of the best school systems in West Virginia. We have a clear plan. We just have to stick to our plan and not allow anything to distract us from achieving our goals of providing excellent education to Logan County students and making school a safe and fun place to be for students and employees.
A special session for the Logan County Board of Education will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 5:00 PM at the Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center.
